DUDLEY H. "BILL" GREENHUT
President / Principal-in-Charge
Much of the continuing success of Greenhut Construction is attributable to the leadership of Bill Greenhut. He started his career at Greenhut working as a carpenter's assistant during his summer vacations. He grouted doorframes on the original Eglin Hospital, worked with a concrete crew on the Chapel at NAS Pensacola, and experienced the construction industry as very few executives do. After college, Mr. Greenhut rejoined Greenhut Construction first in an estimating role, and later as a Project Manager.
Mr. Greenhut attended high school at Darlington School in Rome, GA where he graduated summa cum laude. He spent the next four years in Lexington, VA at Washington and Lee University where he graduated with a degree in Economics in 1967. He then spent 6 months on active duty with the U.S. Army and a 6-year term with the 361st Civil Affairs Reserve in Pensacola.
As a project manager at Greenhut, Mr. Greenhut managed a diverse collection of multi-million dollar projects ranging from a federal prison facility in Alabama to the Senate and House Chambers at the state capitol in Tallahassee. These experiences shaped the direction of the company when he assumed leadership in 1984.
Mr. Greenhut saw the future of construction not as a hard bid, cut throat business, but as a service industry. He directed the company toward that future by setting in place a set of non-negotiable standards for our projects and our clients. The standards are: Committing to the Owner's needs, demonstrating professionalism in all dealings, and maintaining the highest level of integrity.
Despite his numerous charitable and community commitments, Mr. Greenhut continues to be involved in the daily operations of Greenhut Construction. He is heavily involved in pre-construction services, estimating, and client relationships. His main focus, however, is to ensure that Greenhut projects and services exceed client expectations.
LARRY S. NORTHUP
Executive Vice-President
Larry Northup is a long time resident of Pensacola. He attended the University of Florida and earned a Bachelors of Science in Building Construction in 1975. Prior to coming home to Pensacola and working for Greenhut, he worked as a Project Manager for McDevitt & Street Co. (now known as Bovis Construction), one of the largest construction companies in the country. He was responsible for the management of several multi million dollar projects located in Atlanta and outlying areas.
Mr. Northup and his family came home to Pensacola in 1986 and he became a Project Manager for Greenhut. From his days at McDevitt & Street, he brought a wealth of field and management experience to his projects and immediately started to manage such projects as an Armament Research Test Facility at Eglin AFB and the West Florida Cancer Center in Pensacola. As a project manager, he completed over 20 projects for Greenhut, valued at over $75 million. He obtained his license as a General Contractor in 1989.
His talent for communication, his forthright management style, and his extensive technical knowledge of construction made him the perfect fit for the position of Executive Vice-President. He is now responsible for all project managers and superintendents, all field operations, personnel training and education, as well as job safety and quality. Mr. Northup is available to support and guide the superintendents and project managers in their decisions and to work with the client to guarantee that their needs are being met.
Mr. Northup maintains many professional affiliations that support both the construction industry and the community. They include the City of Pensacola Code Enforcement Board, the Construction Specifications Institute, the Carpentry Apprenticeship Committee, ARC Escambia, Five Flags Rotary, and Junior Achievement.
KEVIN SPELLMAN
Vice-President, Senior Project Manager
Kevin Spellman serves as Vice President of Greenhut Construction Company and has been with the firm since 1988. He is extremely organized, detailed, forward thinking and has earned the distinction of overseeing most of Greenhut's major healthcare and government projects, including the new 50 bed hospital at Sandestin, Florida and the $23,000,000 Emergency Room/Operating Room addition at Sacred Heart Hospital.
He obtained a degree in Building Construction in 1982 from Texas A&M University. After working a few years for one of Texas' largest commercial general contractors, he moved to Pensacola and joined the Greenhut organization in 1988.
Mr. Spellman has been recognized twice by our local subcontractor association as General Contractor Manager of the Year. Recently, an owner's representative on a large, complex, government project asked Mr. Greenhut if there was any way to "clone" him because of his expertise in managing the project.
Mr. Spellman, along with Larry Northup, has been asked by Mr. Greenhut to mentor and oversee the company's other project managers. This is in part because of his technical and administrative abilities, but also because of his commitment to Greenhut Construction's underlying values.
