Women's and Children's Hospital at Sacred Heart

Because of its proximity to the main hospital, this project for Sacred Heart Hospital required extreme coordination, safety, and security protection. This 150,000 sf building was constructed immediately adjacent to the existing hospital and included a basement 18 feet below the existing ground. In order to construct the basement, the existing hospital had to be shored with the use of auger-cast piling and a slurry wall, while careful attention was given to avoiding existing crucial utilities and telecommunication systems. This basement contains the laundry and materials storage area for the hospital. The upper floors provide a new main lobby and entrance area (large atrium) as well as a new food service preparation area and cafeteria for the main hospital. The 2nd floor provides a 60 bed maternal services area, including labor and delivery rooms, surgery suites, and nursing units. The 3rd floor is a 40 bed pediatric unit including a 12 unit intensive care nursery.
